Programs
The Programs department supports local preservationists in saving and enhancing historic resources.
The six Regional Offices and two field offices provide field and technical services, coordinate with state and local organizations, and work to expand the presence of the National Trust.
The Center for Preservation Leadership strengthens and supports a network of committed and informed preservation leaders by providing the tools and resources needed to carry out preservation activities in their own states and communities. Its education programs include the annual National Preservation Conference, which attracts more than 2,000 people; the National Preservation Awards; Preservation Leadership Training, an intensive week-long program for community preservationists; Better Boards workshops; and Community & Countryside workshops. The Center also offers specialized information: National Trust Forum membership offers access to a wide range of resources through the quarterly Forum Journal, the bi-monthly Forum News, and Forum Online website; Preservation Books publications provide how-to advice. In cooperation with National Trust regional offices, the Center offers financial assistance to community organizations to undertake preservation projects through National Trust Preservation Funds, the Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation,the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors, and other special grant programs.
The Statewide and Local Partnerships Program strengthens the capacity of statewide nonprofit preservation organizations through mentor relationships, workshops, technical assistance, and other support.
Heritage Tourism provides training, technical, and marketing services to communities to develop their heritage tourism opportunities, including the sensitive use of historic and cultural resources.
Rural Heritage assists Trust staff, programs, and constituents with rural preservation by providing information and access to resources. Rural Heritage oversees production of "Your Town" workshops and deals with issues involving heritage areas and scenic byways.
